A Turn in the Right Direction.
XLMOTO Motorcycle Indicators
Whether replacing or upgrading, a new set of motorcycle indicators from XLMOTO are a turn in the right direction. Motorcycle indicators are small flashing light units at the front and rear of the motorcycle. Also referred to as turn signals, motorcycles have four indicators. Their role is to let other road users know when you are about to make a turn. For street bikes, dual-sports and cruisers, front indicators are on either side of the bike, close to the headlight. For sports bikes, the front indicators may fit flush with the fairing. Rear turn signals on most bikes fit on either side of the rear mudguard or number plate bracket. Motorcycle indicators wire into the bike's battery via a relay unit and operate from a handlebar switch. Aftermarket turn signals come in all shapes and sizes. They range from old-school chrome units to ultra-modern blacked-out motorcycle LED indicators.

Incandescent bulb indicators
Incandescent refers to the single wire filament-type bulb inside the indicator. This turn signal is a direct replacement for older bikes and it is possible to reuse the existing wiring.
LED indicators
If your motorcycle already uses LED lights, then once again, this type of motorcycle indicator is a direct swap. Many riders, though, upgrade to LED units. They do this because motorcycle LED indicators are brighter and use less energy than incandescent bulbs. In this case, you will also need an LED resistor.
Sequential indicators
Most motorcycle indicators, whether standard bulb or LED, flash on and off at set intervals. However, sequential indicators have a series of small LEDs. These are set into a short light bar that gives the appearance of pointing towards the direction of travel.
Indicator relay: standard
An indicator relay is a small electronic unit that fits between the indicators and the battery on motorcycles that run standard bulb indicators. The relay tells the indicator when and how fast to flash. If your indicators stop working or flash erratically, chances are the relay is on the way out. In this case, it's time for an XLMOTO replacement.
Indicator resistor: LED
These units work the same way as standard relays but are for motorcycles running LED indicators. If you want to upgrade from standard to LEDs, you must install an LED indicator relay. If not, the LEDs will flash too fast.
Stem indicators
Regardless of the illumination method, most indicators fit on a stem. This short integral bracket allows the flashing part of the indicator to position a little away from the bike. Their positioning makes them more visible to other road users.
Fairing mount indicators
On sports or touring motorcycles with full fairings, indicators have flat backs. As a result, they often fit flush onto the bike's fairing. This design maintains the fairing's aerodynamic shape.
